Neuroscience Journal Clubs
Addiction Journal Club
The purpose of the Addiction Journal Club is to keep participants up-to-date with the current state of the addiction neuroscience field at large. The format for each meeting is an interactive forum, in which a primary presenter guides the discussion of a research article, with participation from all attendees. Presenters are encouraged to select current articles from the higher impact journals (Science, Nature, Nature Neuroscience, Neuron, etc.). The scope of the article selection is broad, with the only requirement being a connection to addiction. Past articles have included, but were not limited to, patch-clamp electrophysiology in rodent brain slices, single-unit electrophysiology in non-human primates, functional MRI with humans, and molecular biological studies.
Cellular Neurophysiology Journal Club
The purpose of the Cellular Neurophysiology Journal Club is to encourage discussion of relevant and topical neuroscience issues on the level of single neurons. We aim for a thorough understanding of the literature while maintaining clear placement of the topics within the broad context of neuroscience. Papers or review articles concerning cellular neurophysiology, single neuron computation, learning/memory issues on the level of single neurons or small networks, and relevant techniques which expand our understanding and raise new ideas in the field of neuroscience are particularly welcome.
Cognitive Neuroscience Journal Club
The Cognitive Neuroscience Journal Club will cover new and exciting articles that span cognition, perception, neuroimaging and computational neuroscience. All students and faculty interested in engaging discussions on these subjects are encouraged to attend.
Learning and Memory Journal Club
The goal of the Learning and Memory Journal Club is to keep participants abreast of some of the higher impact and current literature within the field of memory and learning. We also have the goal of reviewing on a regular basis some of the classical literature within the field. All of the papers discussed will have a large component focusing on memory and learning at the behavioral level, although many of the papers will also cover genetic, biochemical, cellular, and systems level investigations of memory and learning.
Molecular Neuroscience Journal Club
The purpose of this journal club is to discuss high impact, insightful articles from all areas of Molecular Neuroscience. The format is an interactive, open forum with a primary presenter and the full participation of the audience. This journal club will provide a learning environment for the critical analysis of journal articles, presentation skills, and experimental design.
Synaptic Plasticity Journal Club
The goal of the synaptic plasticity journal club is to keep up with the rapidly evolving field of synaptic transmission in general and synaptic plasticity in particular by discussing the most relevant papers published in the field on a weekly basis. High impact publications will be preferentially covered, although papers that are relevant to a significatnt part of the group will be considered too.
Systems Neuroscience Journal Club
The goal of the Systems Neuroscience Journal Club is to keep journal club members abreast of the current literature in Systems Neuroscience. To foster critical thinking about Systems Neuroscience issues, including experimental design, theoretical and statistical techniques.
